Gander’s Nest is a stunning modern chalet, newly constructed in 2017. The rental is located on a large, shaded lot that slopes gently down to a private dock on the Chippewa Flowage. Inside, the main level encompasses an open, modern kitchen fully equipped with granite counter tops, dinnerware, cooking utensils and appliances. A breakfast bar and two stools abuts a small dining table with chairs for four guests. The living room is comfortably furnished with a sofa, reading chair and ottoman, and a large picture window shows a clear view of the lake. A rough-cut log staircase leads up to the bedrooms. A brick patio at the back of the house looks out over the lake, complete with a charcoal grill, a fire pit and a picnic table.
Sleeping Arrangements: Gander’s Nest offers three private bedrooms. Bedroom one is equipped with a queen-sized bed. Bedrooms two and three are equipped with two twin-sized beds each, for a total overnight capacity of six guests.
Gander’s Nest offers easily accessible, level frontage on the Chippewa Flowage, with a short staircase leading to a wide, private dock. Guests can enjoy the lake views and breeze from the dock and from the outdoor dining patio.
The Chippewa Flowage, or the “Big Chip” covers more than 14,500 acres, and has a sandy bottom pleasant for wading and swimming. With a depth of up to 92 feet in some places, the Big Chip is home to a variety of game fish, including large and smallmouth bass, pan fish, bluegill, musky, northern pike, sturgeon, walleye and catfish. In fact, the Big Chip is locally famous for having produced the world-record holding musky, and continues to produce impressive musky of fifty inches or more. The Chippewa Flowage and the wider Hayward area are a nature-lover’s paradise, surrounded by the trees of the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest, and abundance of lakes, and natural wetland habitats.
Visitors to the area are likely to run across wildlife, including loons, beaver or otter, whitetail deer or elk, timber wolves, black bear and rare birds of prey. The national forests contain a system of interlocking trails, which are maintained during all seasons for hiking and biking, snowmobiling and ATVs, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Hayward is also home to a selection of unique local restaurants and taverns, live music shoes, golf courses, and a charming main street with unique shops.
Guests to Gander’s Nest are provided with a map of the lake as well as a GPS, to help navigate the beautiful natural features and exciting attractions.
