Kern’s Great Escape is a two-story, cedar-sided lake home in Conover, WI. Situated on a level, private lot on Lower Buckatabon Lake, this modern home enjoys three acres of land and 200 feet of waterfront, all bathed in the dappled light streaming through tall pines near Wisconsin’s northern border.
Inside, the home is finished in knotty pine with carpeting in the central living space. The house’s main floor features an open floorplan including a living room, dining room and a full kitchen. The living room has a sofa, love seat and two comfortable chairs, a traditional wood-burning stone fireplace and a large TV. Next to the living room, guests can gather around an oval dining table set for six. There is additional seating for two more at the adjacent breakfast bar.
The dining room opens onto private patio, while windows and glass doors allow warm natural light to fill the space. In the kitchen, guests will find everything they need to prepare and enjoy a home-cooked meal, including modern appliances, dishes, utensils and cookware. At 1,600 square feet, Kern’s Great Escape is spacious and comfortable for up to eight overnight guests to spread out and relax in lakefront peace and quiet. Please note: Towels, sheets and pillow cases are not provided.
Sleeping arrangements: There are three private bedrooms at Kern’s Great Escape. Bedroom one is furnished with a queen-sized bed and has its own TV. Bedroom two also features a queen-sized bed, while bedroom three has two full-sized beds.
The lake is just 75 feet from the door at Kern’s Great Escape, with a level lot that runs along the cabin’s view in both directions. From the water’s edge, guests can enjoy a distance of shallow water and sandy lake shoreline that is ideal for wading, fishing and letting the little ones splash in the water.
Straight out from the house, guests will find a wide, private pier equipped with two Adirondack lounge chairs — the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunshine, the lake breeze and a good book. Guests also have exclusive access to a private boat landing at the corner of the property, so feel free to bring a boat or make use of local rentals.

Comfortable and clean. Well equipped, plenty of room, nice deck and dock and lovely lakefront. Aug. 11, 2018
Kathy and Tom. We spent a week in early August at this lovely place! Outstanding view of the lake from the large cabin yard and deck. Four adults fit very comfortably with the 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. It was nice to have a boat landing on the property with the use of two piers for docking. The large sandy area between the docks would be an ideal spot for little ones to play in. We enjoyed floating on floats in this area as well. Especially enjoyed watching the eagle family and their young and the family of loons on various parts of the lake. We found that both the upper and lower lakes were relatively quiet. Just a beautiful area! All in all, it was a great trip. We would highly recommend it. Aug. 14, 2016
I spent the week up there in July and had the best time! A couple thoughts: Lake Buckatabon — We spent a whole day wakeboarding and skiing in lower Buckatabon and we were the only boat in the area. Quite a luxury for July in Eagle River. They have a nice little sandbar/island in the middle of the lake that works well to park the boat and have a couple drinks, swim and throw a football around. The fishing was great too- we caught tons of bass, a couple northern and some pan fish. The cabin — The owners do a great job keeping up with the property and it shows. They told me the porch on the back was new this year. We spent hours on the porch looking out at the lake, drinking coffee, eating. The porch gets great sun all day, from sunrise to sunset. We had 7 people and everyone slept in a comfortable bed and the kitchen was large enough for big group meals. Firepit and grill outside. Lots of grassy area for yard games and the private boat launch and dock is quite a convenience. The area — If you're looking to get away, you can't beat a vacation to the north woods of Wisconsin. I took a canoe ride starting at Lake Buckatabon and down the Wisconsin River for about 3 miles and it was absolutely breathtaking. Bond Falls, about 30 minutes away is a beautiful waterfall to hike around. Good golfing. If the ladies need to shop, head into town. Great restaurants too. I'd certainly recommend Kern's great Escape (Just don't steal my week in July, I'm hoping to go again next year.) Nov. 6, 2015
Caught fish every day. We were delighted to find such a nice, clean house for our family's week-long stay. The information and directions from the owner were excellent. The views over the lake were spectacular. Unfortunately, the weather was cool and windy. But the guys went out and fished every day, and we ended with two nice fish suppers. I really enjoyed the level lot since my mother has trouble with steps. Bob, the owner knows the area very well and gave us two great dinner spots. March 8, 2015

My wife LeeAnn and I discovered the Lower Buckatabon area on our honeymoon in 1981, when we spent a magical week enjoying the clean air and natural beauty of northern Wisconsin. We made a promise to each other that we would find a special “someplace” to commemorate that trip, and in 1992 we found it in Kern’s Great Escape. We are so glad to share our special place with renters who will come to love it as much as we do. We hope you make your own perfect memories on the lakeshore in Conover!
