Viking Cottage is a rustic, quaint wood-slat cottage set between the trees in a small, private clearing. 2 night minimum-except between Memorial and Labor Day weekends when we rent by the 6 night stay only, with Saturday arrival and Friday departure. This six-person cabin features a lofted sleeping area that overlooks an open-concept great room. This includes a cozy sitting area with two plush sofas and a deep reading chair gathered around a traditional stone hearth. Windows on two sides invite natural light into the space and offer a view of the woods and the nearby shoreline.
A custom staircase leads to the upper-level sleeping area (furnished with two full-sized beds), while a unique arched doorway leads to a fully equipped kitchen. Guests will enjoy the vintage-style refrigerator and the ample counter space for preparing home-cooked meals. Dishes, utensils and cookware are provided. The single bathroom has a small vanity and a walk-in shower. A private bedroom is furnished with a third full-sized bed.
Viking Cottage’s private yard is grassy and flat, with an outdoor charcoal grill and off-street parking space for up to two vehicles. It is an easy walk from the cabin door to the edge of Lake Michigan — don’t forget to bring your swimming suit and beach towels! This lake house is a quiet, romantic escape set to the tune of the tide and decorated with a night sky full of bright stars.
As a guest at Viking Cottage, you’ll have full access to a clean, sandy beach area within walking distance. Make summer memories swimming, combing the beach for stones and shells, fishing off the pier, cooking around the fire or chasing fireflies — without the constant intrusion of internet, cable TV or even clocks. You’re on Cabin Time!
Lake Michigan is the big draw for tourists looking for recreation opportunities around Sturgeon Bay. The nearby beach is across a one-lane road from Viking Cottage, with a gradual, sandy slope to the water’s edge. Visitors can swim in the clear water, launch kayaks, build sand castles, or just enjoy the sun and fresh air.
About a quarter mile north of the cabin, you can pay a visit to the Sturgeon Bay channel, where you can fish and watch the passing water traffic from the public pier. There is minimal traffic around the cabin, so it’s safe to walk and jog in the area. Guests are welcome to bring boats and snowmobiles, but remember the roads are narrow.
Hikers will find plenty to explore, such as the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve up the road or the Door County Land Trust with its more than 445 acres of scenic shoreline, sand dunes, aged forests and open fields. Trails range in skill level from easy to moderate and provide a stunning view of two local lighthouses.
If you have kids (or even if you don't!), don't miss The Farm-a hands on petting zoo and historical gem, just a few minutes north of Sturgeon Bay.
