Check out the Hidden Lake Trail that loops on the south end of Butternut in the Chequamegon Forest or lay out on a beach at Franklin Lake, a crystal clear lake great for swimming and snorkeling. The forest has over 2,000 miles of streams snaking through its interior. Enjoy trout fishing in 1400 miles of the streams, or fish the lakes for a good chance of bass, musky and panfish. Also enjoy the many rugged trails for mountain biking and horseback riding.
ATV/UTV enthusiast: The Flambeau Trails System offers a vast trail system. Some of the cabins and lodges in Butternut are on snowmobile trails - some of the nicest you’ll ever ride. Over hundreds of miles of WI northwoods trails. Enjoy cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Don’t forget Pioneer days, a Butternut festival that’s hosts live music, baseball tournaments, races and horse pulls along with a parade and carnival. Shop the Flea Market during the summer months. Enjoy the Flambeau Rama, a terrific time with the locals with tournaments, parades, carnivals and live music - all withing a few minutes from your cabin or cottage. Participate in the Flambeau 40, and the Roughed Grouse Fall Festival.
