NOT AVAILABLE THIS SEASON
The Hideaway is a seasonal Lake Michigan cottage settled in a shady clearing between tall trees in Sturgeon Bay. The home is set back from neighboring cabins by about 100 feet, giving guests plenty of private yard space. The beach is just visible across the road from the property.
Hideaway cottage offers three separate sleeping areas, enough to accommodate up to six overnight guests comfortably. The home is cozy and full of natural light from windows on all sides, with unique vintage touches such as the pink sink and tub in the single full bathroom.
This six-person lake cabin exists on a single story with a social central living area. Guests can relax in the sitting room with two plush sofas and a DVD player or gather for meals in the fully equipped kitchen — complete with a breakfast bar and a full range of appliances.
The cabin is heated in cooler months by a woodstove furnace — many local gas and convenience stores offer firewood for sale. The lawn beyond the front step is level and grassy, with off-street parking available for vehicles, trailers or sporting/recreational equipment.
sleeping arrangements: Hideaway’s three bedrooms are furnished with a queen-sized bed, a full-sized bed and two twin-sized beds. The queen bedroom is separated from the living area by a sliding curtain, while the other two rooms are more private with solid doors.
The Hideaway pairs a rustic exterior — raw wood slats give this vacation home the first impression of a shack in the woods — with a comfortable interior, offering modern kitchen and bath facilities, as well as clean and prettily decorated living spaces. Dressers and shelves are provided and cleared for guest use, making it possible to unpack your bags and cozy in for an extended stay. There’s nothing fussy about this home — just a beautiful natural setting, a welcoming atmosphere and direct access to the Great Lakes. It’s the kind of rental that makes you want to come back again and again.
The public sandy beach area on the shore of Lake Michigan is just a short walk from the front door of Hideaway cottage, across a low-traffic road and down the gently sloping dunes. Get up early to enjoy your morning coffee while you walk the shoreline or comb the surf for shells and polished stones. The beach is an ideal spot to launch kayaks or canoes and is also a great swimming area with clear water and a shallow, sandy lake bottom.
The Sturgeon Bay channel is located about a quarter of a mile north of the cabin, offering guests a fun day trip to the pier, where you can walk out over the water, fish from the docks and watch the passing boats. There are also opportunities for charter boats and guided fishing trips in the area. On calm days, visitors can even enjoy a pleasant afternoon windsurfing or sailing.
The natural and wildlife areas surrounding this area of Lake Michigan are traversed by hiking, biking and ATV trails. The Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve offers nature trails through more than 445 acres of beach, sand dunes, ancient rock outcroppings and forest land. There is also a 2.5-mile loops that takes sight-seers past two local lighthouse viewing posts. If you’re just looking for a short walk or a place to run nearby, the neighborhood around Hideaway cottage is quiet and the roads are lightly trafficked.
