This private retreat on Lost Lake is a classic, 1920s-style Northwoods log cabin set into a secluded lot and surrounded by towering white pines. This historic vacation home was used in the 1970s as part of an artists’ colony within what is now a nature preserve. The cabin is 3,300 square feet, with five acres of private, wooded land and more than 500 feet of sandy shoreline on the property. A long, private drive leads through the woods, ending at the retreat, which consists of a main cabin, an additional guest cabin, a private dock on Lost Lake, a swimming raft and a fire pit with outdoor benches.
In the main cabin, guests will find a spacious living room with large windows on two sides, looking out on the trees and the lake. Comfortable lounge furniture in the main room is grouped around a stone fireplace and a large TV. Through sliding glass doors, the living room opens onto a large, formal dining room with windows on the three outer walls. A long table can easily accommodate up to six diners. A fully equipped, tidy kitchen with modern appliances and ample counter space completes the first floor.
Sleeping Arrangements: On the upper level, Lost Lake Private Retreat features three private bedrooms. The master bedroom faces the lake and is furnished with a king-sized bed. Bedroom two also faces the lake, and contains a queen-sized bed and a twin-sized bed. The third bedroom is furnished with a full-sized bed, with a view of the woods. These bedrooms share a second-story full bath with a separate shower stall.
Additional space for overnight guests is provided through a pull-out queen-sized sleeper sofa in the living room and a day bed off the living room. There is also a small side cabin that faces the lake, complete with two twin-sized beds OR a king-sized bed, and an additional bathroom with a shower stall.
This secluded log cabin in a clearing in the woods has a unique setting, and with its accessory guest cabin, lake-facing porch across the front of the cabin, large T-shaped dock and campfire circle, it feels like a private, woodsy world unto itself. This log home features two screen-porches, and several rooms made almost entirely of windows. With its natural lighting and lake views, it makes an ideal retreat for artists and nature-lovers of all kinds.
This rental property abuts the shore of 541-acre Lost Lake with a private pier and sandy beach, providing easy access for swimming, boating and fishing. Lost Lake has been ranked by Badger Sportsman magazine as one of the best fishing lakes in Wisconsin, with award-winning musky catches recorded the past two years in a row. Lost Lake is also a popular sporting lake, with equipment rentals available in the area for waterskiing and pontoon boats. The area around the lake is densely populated woodlands and natural wildlife habitat, with scenic trails winding throughout for hiking and biking. The rental rate for Lost Lake Private Retreat includes the use of a rowboat, a canoe and two mountain bikes.
This scenic cabin on the lake is part of a small but friendly lakeside community. Visitors can mingle with locals and other vacationers at the biweekly softball games during the warmer months, or venture into the nearby St. Germain for a multitude of great dining opportunities, local and specialty shopping and golf clubs.

We LOVED our week in St. Germain at this beautiful, private, house. We enjoyed the beach including the eagles that flew around the property daily. We love nature so all the wildlife in the area was awesome. The spotless historical home with a 1920s feel was really fun to live in. The photos are great but I thought the house was even better than the photos. Jack and Linda (owners) were very friendly and helpful. I recommend this vacation retreat to anyone who wants a special, relaxing experience at a beautiful, private, quiet, retreat. We all feel rejuvenated. Sandy
This review has been a long time coming. From July 2015, actually; sorry for the late post. We’ve recently reviewed our vacation spots from the last 10 years (we take a memorable/ planned vacation once or twice per year, in Wisconsin). By far, this was rated the best spot with all family members! This lakeside home is beautiful; just incredible, much bigger than imagined and so full of history…especially for anyone with art/history interest. (Just so happens, I am an artist and so I ‘connected’ with the ‘history’ of the prior owners, they have awesome artwork/family history throughout). Decorated very comfortably and incredibly nostalgic, in excellent condition inside and out. For my husband & sons/friends, the fishing was incredible, found a crappy bed and pulled them out every few seconds! along with big walleye and bass. We found a bait shop in town & were able to bring back live crawfish for a crawfish boil at the ‘homestead’! Yum! So fun to teach a bunch of teenagers this classic tradition! The yard is wonderful, several private acres! Big campfire area, beautiful steps down to the pier. Incredible wildlife, saw deer almost every morning, also bald eagles, etc. You’ll love it, I’m positive! Anonymous
Our stay this fall was fantastic. We walked and relaxed in the woods, and spent time on the Lake which is just a few feet from the house. The scent of pine, eagles flying overhead, the clear blue sky made this one of the most relaxing vacations ever. Thanks, can’t wait to get back. Anonymous
