  • On a quiet residential street in Bay View.

Welcome to the Milwaukee Bungalow, a relaxing 3 bedroom craftsman-style home built in 1919 and lovingly restored a century later. It is situated in the heart of Bay View, one of the most thriving neighborhoods in Milwaukee. Featuring 1100 square feet of living space, the bungalow is ideal for families searching for a spacious, comfortable vacation home or an overnight stop on the way to Wisconsin destinations further afield.

It is tucked away in a tranquil residential neighborhood, yet still within walking distance of many popular restaurants and bars. The Avalon Theater, with first-run movies and the occasional old classic, is just two blocks away. Cupertino Park on Lake Michigan is a leisurely 15-minute stroll or an easy 3-minute drive, and South Shore Park with its renowned outdoor beer garden is just a bit further. Humboldt Park is also within walking distance, featuring a great playground, a beer garden with craft beers, and free Chill on the Hill concerts each week during the summer.

The bungalow has three bedrooms, one bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen, and an outdoor deck with a southern exposure. As you enter the house the dining room will be to your right, and a cozy living room on the left. Continuing toward the center of the house, you will find a full bathroom with tub and shower to the left, along with the downstairs bedroom furnished with a queen bed. Turning to the right, you'll enter a large kitchen with a full-size gas stove, full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. You'll also find a coffee maker, toaster, and other small appliances. A complete array of dishes and cookware make it easy for guests to cook and indulge in meals. The open-air deck connected to the kitchen is ideal for unwinding and savoring the fresh breeze.

A flight of steps will take you to the two upstairs bedrooms. These include a spacious master bedroom with a king bed and large desk, and the kids' bedroom with twin-over-full bunk bed that can sleep up to three children. Both upstairs bedrooms have large walk-in closets. A washing machine and dryer located in the cellar are free for guest use.

The bungalow comfortably sleeps up to six people. A few groups have pushed this to seven (two in the queen bed downstairs, two in the king bed in the master bedroom, and three in the kids' bedroom), though this can require a bit of patience since there is only one bathroom. The bungalow welcomes well-behaved pets with an additional cleaning fee of $25 per stay; any pet damage will be charged to the guest. Fast 100 Mb/s WiFi is provided, supporting Roku TVs located in the living room, downstairs bedroom, and master bedroom.

Unique Features

The Bay View Bungalow offers unique features that set it apart from other vacation rentals in the Milwaukee area. Located just two blocks away, Beulah Brinton Park provides guests with access to a playground, sports fields, and outdoor basketball courts. Just a bit further, the Bay View Dog Park offers off-leash fun throughout the spring, summer, and autumn. A little-known public fishing pier is sandwiched between Cupertino Park on Lake Michigan and the Coast Guard station. Cupertino Park connects with South Shore Park, which offers splendid lake views, leafy picnic spaces, a well-equipped children's playground, and a popular outdoor beer garden.

Notable local businesses include Groppi's Market, a food store, meat market, and deli from a bygone era, and Outpost Natural Foods, an extraordinary health food co-op that is open to the public. Local restaurants like Huê (Vietnamese), Hungry Sumo (sushi), and Honey Pie (all things pork) serve up delicious meals on Kinnikinnic Avenue, while local coffee shops like Collectivo, Anodyne, and Stone Creek put the big chains to shame. For those looking for something a bit more boozy, Burnhart's, At Random, and the Cactus Club are ready to serve. Mor Bakery at First and Becher offers fresh-baked gluten-free delights (advance orders required). For cheap eats, the food trucks on Chase Avenue south of Oklahoma Avenue can't be beat.

The bungalow is accessible from I-43/94 exits 312B (Becher St) and 314A (Holt Ave). It can also be reached conveniently by public transit from the Milwaukee airport, bus station, and both Amtrak stations. The Lake Express ferry dock, connecting travelers to Muskegon, Michigan, is just a few blocks away. Bubblr bike rental is available at Zillman Park near Cafe India on Kinnikinnic Avenue. The area is also well-served by rideshares and taxis.

On-street parking is free for up to 3 nights. For longer stays a $20 overnight parking permit is required - see the City of Milwaukee website for details.

Things To Do

There is an almost endless list of fun and exciting things to do in Milwaukee! The nearby Summerfest grounds hosts a steady stream of festivals each year including Summerfest, the world's largest music festival, Irish Fest, Festa Italiana, German Fest, Indian Summer, Polish Fest, Pride Fest, and more. Discovery World, Betty Brinn Children's Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Harley Davidson Museum, and the North Point Lighthouse are all just a few minutes' drive from the bungalow. Nearby brewery tours range from the big (Miller Coors) to the micro (Lakefront Brewery and Sprecher).

There are numerous parks and recreational areas to explore, including the beautiful Lakefront Trail which offers stunning views of Lake Michigan, and the relaxing Seven Bridges Trail in leafy Grant Park. The Milwaukee Riverwalk is another popular spot for visitors, offering a variety of restaurants, shops, and attractions along the river. The Milwaukee County Zoo is a must-visit for families, featuring over 2,000 animals from around the world.

The bungalow also hosts many guests who come to town for Milwaukee Admirals hockey, Milwaukee Brewers baseball, Milwaukee Bucks basketball, Milwaukee Wave soccer, or college athletics with the Marquette University Golden Eagles and the UW-Milwaukee Panthers. Not far from the bungalow, the Third Ward is home to a growing number of fine art galleries anchored by the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. The Pottawatomi Casino is also nearby.

Milwaukee's location at the confluence of three rivers and Lake Michigan means there's plenty to do on the water. These include swimming at Bradford Beach, paddle boats at Veterans Park, vintage power boats on the Milwaukee River, fishing charters on Lake Michigan, and dinner cruises along the lakefront, to name a few.

Bay View, the neighborhood where the Milwaukee Bungalow is located, is a vibrant and eclectic area with many unique shops and restaurants to explore. From coffee shops and ice cream shops to bars and boutiques, the Bay View neighborhood has it all.

Outside the city, there are also many nearby towns and attractions. The charming town of Cedarburg is just a short drive away and is known for its historic architecture, unique shops, and art galleries. For those looking for a day trip, the Kettle Moraine State Forest offers hiking trails, bike trails, and scenic drives, and is located just a little over an hour away. The bungalow also serves as a convenient overnight stop for travelers making their way toward Door County, the north woods, the Apostle Islands, and beyond.

Reviews

The place was great. You will have to walk about 10 mins to the bars/shops/cafes, and the lake is around 15 minutes as a walk. Rideshare will get to you within 5 minutes. Super nice neighbors came by and talked and were great. Carl B.
Cozy home for our little family for a weekend stay! Thank you! May yer T.
Perfect location to see whatever Milwaukee has to offer. Walking distance to cafes, coffee, restaurants, lake Michigan, etc. Quiet neighborhood. Highly recommend! Will.
The place was roomy enough and there was plenty of street parking which was great. There was a wok and Instapot which was handy. Also everything was labeled which is also handy. The wifi password was easy to find in multiple places. Borja.
Cozy, quiet, well appointed house minutes from the heart of the city. Great wifi and climate control, lots of kitchen tools and snacks, and the hottest hot water. Nice deck and comfy beds. So very much better than a hotel. More for families than partiers. Quiet neighborhood. Will stay again! Ronda.

About the Owner/Manager

The Milwaukee Bungalow is hosted by John, Linda, and Jia-Ji. It was their home until 2017, when work obligations necessitated a move to Iowa. They return frequently, so if you see a blocked date around a major holiday, it probably means they'll be at the Bungalow.
