Welcome to Challeen’s Chalet! As soon as you arrive you’ll feel the stress melt away. This spacious three‑bedroom, three‑bath retreat is tucked into a towering grove of hemlocks just steps from the wild beauty of Moose Lake. My cabin sleeps up to seven guests comfortably and is designed to be a private getaway for families or friends who want to reconnect with nature while enjoying modern comforts.
Inside you’ll find an open‑concept living area with plenty of windows, allowing the forest and lake views to fill the space with light. I love cooking in the fully equipped kitchen—sleek countertops, quality cookware and all the little extras make meal prep easy, and the adjacent dining area is perfect for sharing stories over dinner. After a day on the water, curl up with a good book by the fireplace or stream a movie with the free Wi‑Fi. Each bedroom is thoughtfully furnished to ensure a restful night’s sleep, and three full baths mean there’s never a wait.
Step outside and you’ll understand why I adore this place. A large deck faces the lake and forest, providing the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening cocktails. The property includes two kayaks so you can paddle into quiet coves on Moose Lake—its clear, root‑beer colored water is one of my favorite things about it. There’s also a private dock for swimming, fishing, or launching your own boat, plus a fire pit for roasting marshmallows under the stars. Whether you visit in summer or winter, Challeen’s Chalet offers a peaceful, year‑round retreat.
One of the things that makes my chalet unique is its setting. The cabin sits in a stand of old hemlocks and feels wonderfully secluded, yet it’s just a short walk to Moose Lake. The lake covers about 1,559 acres and is part of the Chequamegon‑Nicolet National Forest, so there’s endless shoreline to explore. You can see and hear wildlife right from the deck—elk, loons and bald eagles often make surprise appearances.
Another highlight is the gear I provide to help you enjoy the lake. Two kayaks are waiting for you to slide into those clear, root‑beer‑colored waters. I’ve also stocked the cabin with games, books and local guides so you can plan your adventures, and there’s a washer/dryer to keep things easy during longer stays. It’s these little extras, along with the timeless Northwoods charm, that make Challeen’s Chalet feel like a home rather than a rental.
You won’t have to go far to find fun—Moose Lake is famous for fishing and boating. Musky, walleye, smallmouth and largemouth bass and panfish all thrive here. I love heading out at dawn to cast a line, then paddling along the shoreline in the afternoon. In winter, the frozen lake becomes a playground for ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross‑country skiing.
The surrounding Chequamegon‑Nicolet National Forest offers miles of trails for hiking, ATV/UTV riding and mountain biking. In autumn, the forest is ablaze with color, and in summer the fragrant pines provide cool shade. When the snow flies, grab your skis or snowshoes and explore the groomed trails. No matter the season, nature lovers will find something to enjoy.
A short drive takes you into the town of Hayward, where you’ll find unique attractions like the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame, the Lumberjack World Championships, the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival and the renowned American Birkebeiner ski race. Browse charming shops, sample local restaurants, or book a guided fishing charter. With so many options, every day can be a new adventure.
If you’re feeling adventurous, explore the area’s many ATV and UTV routes or rent a snowmobile to cruise through powdery trails. There are also several nearby golf courses, mini‑golf, go‑cart tracks and wildlife parks. Whether you prefer high‑energy pursuits or leisurely sightseeing, you’ll find plenty to do within minutes of the chalet.
