Grandpa Bygd’s 3-bedroom log cabin is nestled on the shores of lovely Nelson Lake near Hayward, WI. Splash and swim in the pristine 2,500-acre lake with its shallow bottom perfect for children. You can also bring your furry friends who will enjoy the fenced lakeside yard and delight in being part of your family vacation. This newer Northwoods’ lakefront cottage home comes with a canoe, 14-foot aluminum fishing boat with oars, and pier/dock so you can get out on the lake with ease to fish and paddle. If you bring your own boat, you can launch it at one of the nearby four public boat landings.
The living room with its attractive wood planking and cathedral ceiling is comfortably furnished and includes a TV and gas stove. Expansive windows in the open concept kitchen/dining/living area let in the great views of the lake and abundant light. Patio doors enter out onto a large deck with comfortable outdoor furniture. A three-season porch creates a favorite place to lounge, read, and listen to the sounds of nature surrounding you. Or perhaps you just want to sit in the swing at the water’s edge and listen to the birds singing in the morning with your coffee.
The fully equipped kitchen comes with a refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, silverware, dishware, cooking utensils and cookware. The dining room table seats 6 with additional seating for 2 at the breakfast bar.
Sleeping arrangements: Bedroom 1 (main floor) - queen bed; Bedroom 2 (main floor) - queen bed; Bedroom 3 (upper level) - 2 twin beds; sofa sleeper in living room.
NOTE: Towels are not provided at this property.
Our Hayward vacation rental includes a canoe, 14’ aluminum fishing boat with oars, and a pier/dock. You can paddle the canoe or fishing boat to several local restaurants on the lake near the cabin for breakfast or lunch. Spend lots of time lakeside on your private pier/dock.
Pets are welcome and your dog will love the fenced in lakeside yard. A fire pit, swing set and picnic table on the lakefront makes gathering for entertainment and family traditions on “Cabin Time.”
There are hundreds of miles of gravel forest roads in the area offering awesome views of forests, lakes, streams and bogs. Take the family to view fall colors or for a peaceful and relaxing bike ride. Enjoy the many paved country roads for road cycling or hit the 300 miles of CAMBA trails available for mountain biking, hiking, trail running, and snowshoeing.
The Hayward area also offers world class cross country skiing on the American Birkebeiner, Hatchery Creek, North End and Telemark trails. This area is also very popular for snowmobile and ATV riding on the huge trail network criss-crossing the area.
There are thousands of acres of wild Northwood forest in this area containing ample game for hunting including whitetail deer, ruffled grouse, bear and snowshoe rabbits. Nearly 70% of the land in this area is open to the public.
The Hayward area also has a large selection of restaurants and taverns to fuel your adventures and quench your thirst. Many of the area taverns feature local musicians in a casual and family friendly atmosphere.
Many nearby lakes including Chippewa Flowage, Grindstone, Round and Lac Courte Oreilles are excellent for water sports, boating, sailing and fishing. Public beaches are located at Lake Hayward, Round Lake, Smith Lake, Moose Lake and Day Lake.
Also visit tourist attractions like Lumberjack Village, Weber's Wilderness Walk or the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.
The Namekagon River which is a headwater to the St Croix provides excellent paddling, tubing, camping and fishing opportunities. The West and East Forks of the Chippewa River have some of the best fishing Northern Wisconsin has to offer.
Wildlife viewing opportunities include whitetail deer, bald eagles, black bear, timber wolves, elk, otters, loons and beavers.
Hayward has numerous golf courses, including Hayward National and The Big Fish course designed by the world-renowned designer, Pete Dye. The kids will enjoy miniature golfing, go-carting and much more!

Nightly rates at Grandpa Bygd's Cabin $300 per night, with a three-night minimum stay during the off season.
During peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), Grandpa Bygd's Cabin rents on a weekly-only basis. Weekly rentals run Friday to Friday.
Sales tax of 7.5 percent will be added to all rental rates, along with a $79.13 booking fee (includes tax).
A refundable damage deposit of half the rent is required on the day of arrival.
A $150 cleaning fee to be added to all rentals.
