This elegant work-of-art is an embodiment of Frank Lloyd Wright’s design principles - designed in 1958. The cottage's central massive fireplace is the heart of the living space which includes a complete Galley kitchen complete for preparing simple to formal meals, living/dining room, and in the bedroom is a ribbon of narrow windows just beneath the roof provides a wash of light offering privacy. The soaring roofline emphasizes the stylized pine cutout clerestory.
This 880 square feet masterpiece was purchased by the State of Wisconsin in 1966. Perfectly set in the lush woods of Wisconsin’s Mirror Lake State Park.
Unique Features
A great view of Mirror Lake from the terrace. See the western end of Mirror Lake from atop the bluff the Cottage sits on. The interior stone walls and floor repeat the craggy exterior as well as the natural setting which is typical of Wright's work. The flagstones used to pave the outside terrace continue inside the building as the cottage floor. Spring, Fall and Winter is the perfect time to enjoy the sun-filled dining area with a natural view.
The Cottage is balanced just on the edge of the steep wooded hill that plunges down to Mirror Lake. The great flying roof, seeming to hang in space without support. To fully furnish the cottage for rental purposes, John Eifler designed additional furniture pieces to complement Wright’s design.

Picnicking, boating, swimming, fishing, cross-country skiing (Mirror Lake State Park has some of the finest cross country ski trails in the mid-west), and just plain relaxing. Enjoy the intimate living area - warmed by the majestic fireplace. The cottage is perfect for a special getaway.
