Just steps from the crystal clear water, our cottage offers both a quiet, relaxed spot for a getaway and all the amenities to thoroughly enjoy your time with us! Roomy and welcoming, Balsam Cabin is a great spot for larger groups.
Our rental is available year-round to take advantage of our proximity to the Vilas County snowmobile trail, as well as the area’s great ice fishing. End the days during your wintery escape by sinking into our large, comfortable leather furniture in front of the wood-burning fireplace. Enjoy the satellite tv or provided DVD player.
Invite the whole family! The cottage offers plenty of sleeping arrangement flexibility with two bedrooms featuring queen-size beds and a third bedroom with both a full-size bed and bunk beds.
With a rock fireplace and wicker furniture on the screened-in porch, our cabin gives you the complete lake vacation feel. Finish off a great day of Northwoods fishing by using our outdoor “fish house” to clean your catch. Prepare your fish lakeside on the outdoor Weber grill or in the fully-equipped and modernized kitchen. Enjoy dining in the cabin’s larger dining area or eat under the tall pines on the furnished deck, as the sun sets over the water.
With over 200 feet of sandy beach, our resort offers one of the best beaches in northern Wisconsin. Our beach is level with all three of the resort cabins — no stairs! Swim off the private pier, jump into the lake from the swim raft or further explore Plum Lake and neighboring Star Lake in the provided row boat. Motor available to rent.
Swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing — you’ll find it all right here lakeside year-round! Or for even more to do - explore the nearby towns of Saynor, Minoqua and St. Germain, where you’ll find plenty of activities for your whole group.

Peak season at The Balsam Cabin runs Memorial Day through Labor day. Nightly rentals are not permitted during this time. Weekly rentals during peak season are $1,750 per week. During the off-season, (September through November), Nightly rates of $250.00 are available during this time with a minimum stay of three nights.
A deposit of $200.00 is required to reserve weekly rentals, or $75.00 for weekend stays.
The full balance is due upon arrival.

My family has been coming to plum lake since the mid 70's and started off at Wickwood on Hanson road. This is our first time staying here at The Woodlands and absolutely fell in love. We stayed in the Maple cabin and almost has the feel of Sunset. The 4th generation of my family now got the opportunity to fish the lake that my grandparents started off on where my Dad and I learned how to fish and now my kids have the same place where it all started. The Woodlands has been the site of my family’s annual vacation since 1962. The cottages are cozy, and there is plenty to do for all ages, from walking and biking to swimming, and kayaking. Woodlands Resort has been in our family for three generations, since my father purchased the grounds in 1983. My parents stayed at the resort every summer and loved spending time with the seasonal guests. Many of our renters have been visiting Woodlands for 50 years or more and have become close family friends.
In 2017, ownership of the resort passed to us, and we consider ourselves blessed to continue the legacy and tradition of Woodlands. During our tenure, we have updated the cabins with new cabinets and appliances, remodeled bathrooms and new beachfront amenities. We are in the process of expanding our service from seasonal rentals to a year-round vacation destination so our guests can experience everything the Northwoods has to offer.
