Perched high on the south shore of Lake Content, our Eagle Bluff cabin is a recently built 3-level chalet that offers sweeping water views and the privacy of 20 wooded acres. The 3,400-square-foot home was designed for multi-generational families and large groups, with six private bedrooms and a loft sleeping area; most bedrooms look out over the lake. You’ll find 3½ baths, a full-width front porch and a lakeside deck with gas grill and plenty of seating for watching the sunrise, plus a great room with a gas fireplace and a wall of windows overlooking the water. The gourmet kitchen has abundant cabinet and pantry space, a dual-fuel range, microwave and French-door refrigerator; at the end of the granite counter is a 6-seat bar complete with an ice maker. There is seating for 12 at the hickory dining table and another 12 on the deck. Downstairs, a walk-out lower level contains a second living area with a mini-kitchen, full-sized refrigerator, bar seating for six, table seating for four and a TV.
The cabin’s hillside setting leads down to a private acre of shallow, sand-bottom water where children can splash and play while adults relax in the sun. A private dock extends into the bay, giving you direct access to 1,880 acres of the Big St. Germain chain of lakes for fishing, boating and swimming. A furnished fire-pit area lets your group gather under the stars—northern lights are sometimes visible on clear nights—and there’s a picnic table near the shore and another table on the dock for relaxing and watching the eagles and loons that frequent the property. The property also includes lots of parking, wireless broadband internet and all the modern conveniences expected in a luxury Northwoods retreat.

One of Eagle Bluff’s distinguishing features is its private 20-acre wooded estate on Lake Content. Unlike cabins on small lots, our chalet sits atop a hill with a commanding view of the lake and surrounding forest. The property includes an acre of shallow, sandy waterfront and a private dock, making it easy to launch your own boat or rent kayaks and paddleboards in town. It’s rare to find this combination of privacy and lake access so close to St. Germain; you can spend the day fishing or swimming in the Big St. Germain Lake chain and then return to your own dock and fire-pit for a quiet evening under the stars.
The cabin itself was designed with large groups in mind. Six bedrooms plus a loft accommodate up to 20 guests, and the open-concept great room, gourmet kitchen and dining area make it easy to gather everyone together. A lower-level living area with a second kitchen gives teenagers or grandparents their own space. There’s central air conditioning, heating and a gas fireplace for year-round comfort; a laundry room with washer and dryer; and plenty of parking. Every bedroom but one has a lake view, so you’ll wake up to sparkling water and whispering pines.
Despite the secluded feel, you’re minutes from the village of St. Germain. The Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail, a National Recreation Trail, begins at the end of our driveway and offers more than 52 miles of paved biking connecting St. Germain, Sayner, Boulder Junction and other Northwoods communities. The Awassa Nature Preserve and Hiking Trail, less than a mile away, contains 230 acres of mature pines, oaks and maples with four easy loops—Maple, Red Oak, Pinewood and Aspen—for walkers, runners and hikers. The St. Germain Golf Club, a championship 18-hole course carved through white- and red-pine forest, stretches 6,651 yards and is known for its scenic beauty. In winter, you can access the Bo-Boen snowmobile trail network directly from the driveway; the club grooms over 100 miles of trails!
The Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail is just at the end of our driveway. This National Recreation Trail features more than 52 miles of paved path winding through Northern Highland–American Legion Forest and along clear lakes and rivers. Riders can start on the St. Germain segments—either the flat 5.5-mile section to South Bay Trail Lot or the rolling 8.5-mile section toward Sayner—and connect to additional communities like Boulder Junction and Manitowish Waters. There are scenic rest areas with picnic spots, beaches for a swim, and even restaurants accessible from the trail, so bring your bikes or rent them nearby.
For hiking, head to the Awassa Nature Preserve & Hiking Trail, less than a mile from the cabin. This easy, family-friendly trail system meanders through 230 acres of mature forest; choose from the Maple, Red Oak, Pinewood or Aspen loops, all shaded and well-marked. Another nearby hiking option is the Fern Ridge Trail; this 1.4-mile intermediate loop features wildflowers and benches along the path. For longer adventures, drive a few minutes north to the Shannon Lake Trail where multiple loops (Red, Blue/Red, Red/Yellow, Blue/Yellow and Green/Red) circle a quiet, non-motorized lake and wind through stands of northern hardwoods.
Golfers will appreciate having the St. Germain Golf Club just two minutes away. Opened as a 9-hole course in 1993 and expanded to 18 holes in 1996, the course stretches 6,651 yards from the back tees and challenges seasoned golfers while remaining enjoyable for social players. Carved through dense white- and red-pine forest, the course showcases Northwoods beauty at every turn; lessons and a driving range are available, and the clubhouse snack shop makes a great post-round stop.
Winter brings a different kind of adventure. St. Germain is celebrated as Wisconsin’s "Snowmobile Capital." The Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club maintains over 100 groomed miles of trails directly accessible from our driveway, and those trails connect with more than 1,000 miles of signed and groomed routes throughout the Northwoods. Rent a sled in town and explore pristine forests, frozen lakes and quaint Northwoods communities. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are also available on the nearby Awassa and Fern Ridge trails, and local outfitters offer ice-fishing gear for winter anglers.

Nightly rates range from $479 to $1,250 plus taxes and fees. Weekly rates range from $3,353 in spring/fall to $8,750 during peak summer and holiday weeks. Summer rentals are Friday to Friday with a 7-night minimum. Spring and fall stays require a 3-night minimum. Off-season stays of 2 nights may be available. Rates exclude 5.5% Wisconsin sales tax and 4% Vilas County room tax. A 25% deposit is due at booking with the balance payable 60 days before arrival. We accept credit card or bank transfer payments. Our family of twelve had an amazing week at Eagle Bluff. The cabin was spotless and had everything we needed, from the fully stocked kitchen to the comfortable beds. We loved exploring the private trails and spending evenings by the fire pit. We will definitely be back – Lisa & Jeremy F.
