Beautiful home and "Barndo Den" on private lake 5 miles from Birchwood, Wi. The "Barndo Den" is adjacent to our home. It is extra space to hang out with family/friends. Our Nice Lake retreat near Birchwood pairs a wood-lined cabin with an adjacent gathering space for foosball, long conversations and the gear that comes with a Northwoods adventure. Spend the day at the sandy shoreline and watch the beautiful sunset in the evening while sitting around a campfire lakeside.

Inside the cabin, tall windows bring lake views into the living and dining areas, and the sunroom offers another spot to settle in. Make breakfast in the full kitchen, pull up a chair at the dining table or head out to the lakeside deck. A gazebo, outdoor seating and a gas grill keep meals and conversation close to the water. The level yard connects these gathering spots with the shore and private dock.

This is a home base for families and small groups in every season. Paddle, swim and fish in warm weather, return from a fall ATV outing to the gas fireplace, or gather indoors after exploring the area's winter trails. Central heating and air conditioning, WiFi and a washer and dryer make longer stays practical. Well-mannered dogs are welcome under our pet rules, so the family member with the least luggage can come along, too.

Unique Features

The sleeping layout includes a king bedroom, a bedroom with a full bed, and an open loft with a queen and two twins; the sunroom also has a pullout sofa. We welcome up to eight overnight guests. A travel crib, highchair, booster seat, children's books, toys, and board games help with mixed-age trips. The cabin has a full bathroom with a tub and shower. A second full bathroom is in the Barndo Den and is available in spring, summer and fall; its water is shut off during winter, leaving the cabin bathroom in service.

The Barndo Den gives outdoor gear and indoor fun a place of their own. Its kitchenette has a refrigerator and sink, with gathering tables, foosball and a pellet stove nearby. Down at Nice Lake, a canoe, youth kayaks, pedal boat and 14-foot fishing boat with an electric motor are provided for guests. Bring your own life jackets and swim towels. The lawn, planted beds, sandy frontage and lakeside firepit give the property several distinct outdoor spaces.

Things To Do

Start with the water outside: paddle along Nice Lake's shoreline, take the fishing boat out or enjoy the sandy shallows. The supplied boats make a lake day possible without arranging a rental. Bring properly fitted life jackets and your own water-play toys. Back on shore, the deck and firepit offer a front-row seat for sunset before a foosball rematch in the Den.

ATV riders have direct access from our property to the area trail system. For route planning, Birchwood's Tuscobia State Trail runs beside Highway 48, with village street parking; Bluegill Park at Highway 48 and South Vance Street is another useful town landmark. Check current county conditions before riding. The Tuscobia section from the Red Cedar Lake Bridge east toward the Price County line closes to ATVs November 15–December 15, and the western section toward Rice Lake is nonmotorized. Winter snowmobile openings depend on county conditions.

For an outing on foot, visit Hunt Hill Nature Center in Sarona. The 0.3-mile Barred Owl/Discovery Trail is a wide path with a few small hills and themed objects hidden along the way—a manageable choice for younger explorers. Want more walking? The forested Bear Trail passes four glacial lakes and two footbridges. Allow more than 2.5 miles for the full outing, including its Frances Andrews and Vole connecting sections, rather than treating the signed two-mile Bear Trail as the whole route.

In Birchwood, combine a stop on Main Street with the public fishing pier at the end of Lake Avenue or Doolittle Park's beach and playground on Hinman Drive. The Birchwood Area Historical Society's Morey House and Log Museum offer a look at the town's logging past; check their visitor schedule before heading over. Golfers can arrange a tee time at the 18-hole Tagalong course. For an adults' afternoon alternative, Perlick Distillery in Sarona has a year-round tasting room Thursday–Sunday; check its current hours and food schedule when planning your visit.

About the Owner/Manager

I'm Sue, and this Nice Lake home has family roots: my parents built it, and my husband and I now share it with guests. Time with family and friends, outdoor adventures and our five grandchildren are a big part of our lives. We enjoy welcoming people who want a place to gather as well as a lake to explore.

Contact us with your dates and a little about your group. Asking us directly is a useful way to talk through the sleeping layout, the Barndo Den's seasonal bathroom, dog guidelines and what to pack for the water. We'll help you understand the property so you can decide whether it suits your stay.
