Spend the morning exploring the grounds, come back for lunch from your own kitchen, then let everyone choose their afternoon: playground time, a movie, or simply watching the river. The living room's reclining sofa and woodstove make a fine landing place after an outing. With air conditioning, a dishwasher and a gas grill, the practical side of cabin life is covered, too.
Evenings can stretch from supper on the deck to stories around your firepit. Add the optional deck hot tub for a soak with a Mississippi River view. Our four cabins are within walking distance of one another, so ask us about bringing another family along in a neighboring cabin. The vehicle theme is built into the sleeping spaces. The downstairs bedroom pairs a king bed with a twin Corvette bed and a children's play area. One upstairs loft has two queen beds and a toddler bed; the second holds the custom queen truck bed. Privacy curtains at both loft ends help divide the spaces, but these are loft sleeping areas rather than enclosed upstairs bedrooms.
Log walls, exposed wood and automotive touches carry the theme through the cabin, including a distinctive canoe-shaped dining table. Toys and games give the kids something to discover, and the TV/DVD player and 400-DVD library make a rainy afternoon easy to fill. A walk-in shower with a built-in seat, provided linens and bath towels round out the setup. The hot tub is an optional $100-per-stay addition.
Start close to home with our private hiking trails and large shared playground. Cornhole and deck Jenga can turn a little downtime into the family championship. For a river outing, a public Mississippi River boat landing is less than a mile away. Ask us about separately arranged kayak rentals with local drop-off and pickup, or the locally available six-seat UTV rental.
Carry the cabin's transportation theme into a day at Cassville. The Pride of Cassville Ferry carries vehicles and walk-on passengers across the Mississippi to Iowa. Bring cash and check that day's operating status before leaving; service is seasonal and river conditions can change the schedule.
Stonefield in Cassville gives curious kids and adults a look at old farm machinery and a recreated 1900s village. It is a good match for anyone who wants to see how things worked before touchscreens. Plan around its seasonal opening days and allow time to explore beyond the museum.
For a short woodland outing, Nelson Dewey State Park's Oakwood Trail is a 0.4-mile trail with a gentle slope. For more ambitious walking, Wyalusing State Park has bluff scenery and routes with stairs and steep sections. Pick up a current park map and choose a route that suits the youngest hikers before heading out.
