Woodland Escape is our invitation to gather the family under a log roof, with the Mississippi River in view and room for different generations to find their own rhythm. The woodland theme feels right at home on our secluded 80-acre retreat near Glen Haven. Some days begin with a walk among the trees; others begin with a unanimous vote to stay on the deck a little longer.
Inside, the main-floor bedroom and two upstairs lofts give your group several sleeping spaces, while the living room brings everyone back together around the woodstove. Cook the favorites that rarely make a restaurant menu, spread out for a board game, or pull up a futon sofa for movie time. Our furnished kitchen, dishwasher and air conditioning help keep the everyday tasks small and the family time generous.
Take supper outside to the gas grill, then trade the dinner table for a firepit circle as the evening cools. You can add the deck hot tub to your stay for another way to enjoy the river view. Woodland Escape works especially well for families who want both shared adventures and quiet pauses. Contact us directly to match the bed layout to your group and plan a cabin stay that feels like yours.
Woodland touches and exposed timber give this cabin its own personality. Downstairs, the bedroom has a king bed, a daybed with a trundle and a play area. One upstairs loft contains two queen beds and a toddler bed, and the other has a king bed. There are also two futon sofas in the living room; ask us about your group's best sleeping arrangement when booking. The upstairs beds are in lofts, not separate enclosed bedrooms.
Our river-facing deck lets you move easily between a meal outdoors and a long look across the water. Cornhole boards and deck Jenga supply a little friendly competition, while toys, games and a 400-DVD library keep indoor options handy. Linens and bath towels are provided, and the bathroom has a walk-in shower with a built-in seat. The optional hot tub costs $100 per stay.
Follow a walk on our private trails with a stop at the shared playground, or settle in to watch birds from the deck. You need not fill every hour to enjoy Woodland Escape. Our public river landing nearby puts a boating day within reach; kayak rentals with local drop-off and pickup are arranged separately from your cabin stay.
For a longer woodland walk, Wyalusing State Park's Turkey Hollow Trail makes a 2.3-mile loop through a mix of fields and forest. Expect rolling terrain rather than a level stroll. Bring water and a current trail map, and leave time for the park's river overlooks.
Nelson Dewey State Park offers a shorter alternative. Try the 0.3-mile Woodbine Nature Trail for a self-guided walk through woods and openings, or choose the 0.4-mile Oakwood Trail for its gentler slope. These are useful options when the group wants a little fresh air without committing the whole day.
Add some local history at Stonefield in Cassville, where a recreated farming village and agricultural exhibits offer a change from trail time. Check seasonal opening days before planning your visit. For a warm-weather water outing, Wyalusing Public Beach is another local option; it is separate from Wyalusing State Park.
