Bring the whole crew, then let everyone find their own corner of the lake weekend. At 7 Oaks Lodge on Little Sissabagama Lake, tall windows pull the shoreline into a great room framed by substantial logs and a soaring timber ceiling. Settle into the seating around the stone fireplace while the dinner committee gets to work nearby. Our wooded setting outside Stone Lake gives family gatherings and fishing trips a home base with room to linger.
Meals needn't send half the group searching for a restaurant. The furnished kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher and generous work space, with a bench-style table for pancakes, card games and the occasional spirited discussion about who caught what. A separate dining area gives supper its own place. Out on the screened porch, you can keep the lake in view while stretching a conversation well past dessert.
When everyone's idea of evening entertainment differs, the lower-level lounge and wet bar come into their own. Some can watch a movie downstairs while others read up in the loft or gather in the main living room. Three king bedrooms and two bunkrooms give the group options at bedtime; the lodge welcomes up to ten guests. Save a little energy for tomorrow's lake plans. The rematch can wait.
The lodge's roughly 3,500 square feet are arranged around several distinct places to gather. An open loft with bookshelves and armchairs overlooks the great room, while the lower level has its own lounge, bar seating, sink and second full-size refrigerator. That extra cold storage is useful when ten people's groceries arrive together. Log walls, exposed beams and stone hearths carry the cabin character through the different levels.
Outside, a broad deck, screened porch and sheltered lower patio offer different ways to enjoy the wooded lot and lake view. The large yard leads down the sloping shoreline to a private dock; steps are part of the route to the water. This is a home for guests who want both substantial indoor gathering space and their own place along Little Sissabagama, with the practical convenience of WiFi, air conditioning and a washer and dryer.
Start with Little Sissabagama itself: watch the shoreline from our dock, fish for musky, bass and panfish, or plan time exploring the lake by boat. Ask us about launch arrangements and any equipment you intend to bring or rent before arrival. Back at the lodge, the yard, grill and firepit give you plenty of reasons to keep an evening close to home.
For a shorter outing in town, visit Stone Lake Wetland Park. Its 600-foot boardwalk, covered walking bridge and lake-view gazebo make a useful change of pace from a longer woodland hike. The main entrance is at Highway 70 and 3rd Street North. Pair a walk with a browse through Stone Lake's small shops before returning for lunch.
For more time on foot, Green Lake-Sis Hiking Trail winds past four woodland lakes. The trail is listed at 3.5 miles, with parking access from Little Sissabagama Road and Green Lake Road; choose your route and turnaround before setting off. In winter, those parking areas are plowed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, with the day's conditions guiding your plans.
Railroad fans and curious kids can try the Stone Lake Historical Museum, where the original Soo Line depot, a restored caboose and the former town hall tell different parts of the community's story. Admission is free. This is a seasonal stop, generally from Memorial Day into early October, so check the current opening days before making it your rainy-afternoon plan.
