Nestled in a stand of towering pines along the Big Chetac Lake shoreline, Cabin 1 offers front‑row seats to sunrise over the water. Step through your door onto a 10×24 screened porch facing east and watch the sun climb above the treetops as loons call in the distance. A private pier extends just a few steps from your mini deck, so you can sip coffee or cast a line without ever leaving your own front yard.
Inside, this Northwoods‑modern cottage sleeps up to six guests in two comfortable bedrooms—one with a queen bed and the other with a full bed—and a living room sofa sleeper. The open kitchen makes family mealtime a breeze with a full‑size refrigerator, gas stove and all the pots, pans and utensils you need, plus a dining table with seating for six. After a day on the lake or golf course, kick back in a pair of reclining chairs to watch a movie on the flat‑screen TV with hundreds of digital and premium channels or connect to free Wi‑Fi to share your adventures.
The living areas are carpeted and air‑conditioned for four‑season comfort, and the full bath has a shower and vanity. Outside, you’ll find a cedar swing, sofa sleeper and table on the screened porch, plus a Weber grill, fire pit and picnic area for evenings under the stars. With direct lake access, peaceful wooded surroundings and all the conveniences of home, Cabin 1 is a relaxing retreat for families, couples or small groups.
Guests love Cabin 1’s 10×24 screened porch that faces the eastern sky. From the cedar swing or sofa sleeper you can watch the sunrise, spot wildlife and feel the breeze off Big Chetac Lake without swatting mosquitoes. Just beyond is your own private pier where you can dock a boat or spend the evening fishing; it’s like having your own slice of lakefront.
Another special touch is the cabin’s Northwoods character. Built from locally milled spruce and oak, it still features warm wood paneling and simple décor from the resort’s 1950s roots, yet has been updated with modern comforts. Lazy‑Boy recliners, a full kitchen and flat‑screen TV create a cozy, home‑like feel, while the screened porch, fire pit and Weber grill encourage outdoor living. Staying here is like stepping into a family lake tradition.
Big Chetac Lake forms part of a scenic chain with Big and Little Birch lakes, offering more than 1,900 acres of water to explore by boat, canoe or kayak. Known as the "Bluegill Capital of Wisconsin," Big Chetac is home to plentiful bluegill, crappie, perch, bass and walleye. Rent a pontoon and tour the lake, cast for panfish from your private pier or head out for waterskiing, tubing and wakeboarding.
Off the water, the Birchwood area features hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, biking, ATV riding and snowmobiling. The Little Sis/Green Lake trail and the Ice Age National Scenic Trail offer non‑motorized hiking and skiing. The Tuscobia State Trail runs through town and attracts hikers, cyclists, ATVers and cross‑country skiers alike. Winter visitors can enjoy over 600 miles of groomed snowmobile routes and quiet forests for snowshoeing.
Birchwood may be small, but it boasts a surprising variety of shops, cafés and supper clubs. Walk down Main Street to browse boutiques and antique shops or sample a classic Northwoods Friday night fish fry at a local restaurant. Don’t miss summertime events like the Bluegill Festival in July, or tee off at one of the area’s golf courses such as Tagalong Golf Club. Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, there’s always something fun to do nearby.
