Nestled directly on the shores of Big Chetac Lake, our Cabin 2 is all about the water. You’ll wake up to panoramic sunrise views from a generous 10x24 screened porch that faces east. Pour yourself a cup of coffee, sink into the cedar swing or dine at the porch table, and watch the sun and moon rise over the lake just steps from your private pier.
Inside the cabin you’ll find a warm and welcoming Northwoods retreat with two bedrooms—one with a queen bed and the other with a full bed—plus plenty of closet and dresser space. The fully equipped kitchen is ready for your family meals, complete with a full-size refrigerator, gas stove, cookware and a table with six chairs. When it’s time to relax, our living room offers two recliners, a comfortable couch that converts into a double bed, and a large picture window looking out to the lake.
Cabin 2 sleeps up to six guests and is designed for comfort. Bedrooms and the living room are carpeted, the bathroom features a shower and vanity, and the cabin is air conditioned for warm summer days. A 32‑inch flat‑screen TV with 150 digital channels (including premium channels) and Wi‑Fi keep you connected, while a Weber grill and nearby fire pit invite you to spend evenings outdoors. This is your lakeside home away from home.
What sets Cabin 2 apart is its connection to the lake. The expansive 10x24 screened porch overlooks Big Chetac Lake and lets you enjoy the outdoors in comfort—listen to loons, watch eagles soar and feel the gentle lake breeze. Just outside your door is your own private pier with benches and a mini deck, so you can fish, dock your boat or simply dip your toes in the water whenever you like.
You’ll appreciate the blend of nostalgia and modern convenience. This cabin retains its Northwoods character yet offers modern comforts like Lazy‑Boy recliners, a sofa sleeper on the porch for extra sleeping space, a full‑size refrigerator and gas stove, air conditioning and Wi‑Fi. Everything is within reach, from the Weber grill to the fire pit, making it easy to host family cookouts or roast marshmallows under the stars.
The resort is designed for fun. Kids will love the large sand play area with a jungle gym and swing, and grown‑ups often relive childhood memories on the property’s original 1920s maypole. Bring your own boat and dock it at no charge, or rent one of our motors or extra boats. We even provide a fish‑cleaning building with stainless‑steel tables, hot and cold water, and freezer space for your catch.
Big Chetac Lake offers outstanding fishing—it’s known as the Bluegill Capital of Wisconsin. Anglers also reel in largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, crappie and yellow perch. Spend your days exploring more than nine miles of connected waterways, swim from the pier, or simply relax on your private deck and watch the wildlife.
Off the water, there are plenty of adventures nearby. Seven golf courses are within a 30‑minute drive, with one just minutes away. Hikers can pick up the Ice Age Trail in Birchwood for a peaceful walk through the forest, and adrenaline seekers can rent an ATV and hit the Tuscobia Trail right from town. Birchwood’s Doolittle Park offers a free beach for swimming, and you’ll find family‑friendly cafés, pizza dens, antique shops, a grocery and a hardware store in town.

Rates are based on two guests. Additional visitors cost $12 per night or $80 per week. Weekly rates: $1,350 per week May 3–May 31 and Sept 1–Oct 31; $1,450 per week June 1–Sept 1. Nightly rate is $205 with a two-night minimum. A $300 deposit per week is due by February 1; deposits are fully refundable if cancelled 30 days prior and the cabin is rebooked. Full cottage rental is charged for the length of time reserved. Check‑in is 2 p.m. Saturday and check‑out is 9 a.m. Saturday. Rollaway beds or high chairs are $5 per week each. Day visitors after the first day are $5 per day; overnight visitors are $12 per night or $80 per week. No pets allowed. Archie Howard: After 24 years of visiting Red School Resort we can’t imagine a summer without it. The cabins are always clean and our stay in Cabin 2 was our first with grandchildren. We’ll be back again next June.

Red School Resort is owned and operated by the Manning family—Rich, Donna and their son Tony. We purchased the property in 1986 and have lovingly maintained and remodeled our cabins over the years, preserving the original Northwoods paneling while introducing modern comforts. Four of our cabins were built in the 1950s from locally milled spruce and oak; we like to call the style ‘Northwoods Modern.’
We live next door to the resort and are always nearby if you need anything, but we respect your privacy so you can enjoy a relaxed getaway. Our goal is to provide clean, comfortable accommodations at a reasonable rate. We’re proud to share Big Chetac Lake with our guests and enjoy meeting visitors who return year after year.
