Cabin 3 at Red School Resort is a spacious two‑bedroom home recently remodeled inside and out. This new addition to our northwoods resort features a modern kitchen complete with a dishwasher, full‑size refrigerator, beverage cooler and everything you need to prepare meals. The cabin’s large living room invites you to relax with a 46‑inch flat‑screen TV, digital channels, premium access, two Lazy Boy recliners and a large couch.
The first bedroom is furnished with a queen and a twin bed, while the second bedroom offers a full and a twin bed, comfortably accommodating families or groups. A full bathroom with shower and convenient storage is located off the main living area. Cabin 3 is outfitted with air conditioning, cable TV and WiFi for those who need to stay connected during their getaway.
A four‑season porch, once a screened porch, now offers table and chairs, a flat screen TV and a hide‑a‑bed sofa—perfect for enjoying lake views year‑round. Outside, you’ll find a private deck lakeside with a Weber grill for cookouts, a personal pier for docking your boat and parking right at your door. Cabin 3 combines the comforts of home with the serene atmosphere of Big Chetac Lake, giving you plenty of space to relax and unwind.

The recent renovation means everything from flooring to fixtures is fresh and inviting, making this cabin a standout choice for guests seeking both comfort and character.
Red School Resort sits on the shores of Big Chetac Lake, a 1,900‑acre body of water known for excellent fishing. Guests of Cabin 3 can dock their own boat at no extra cost or rent one of our boats or motors. We also offer extra equipment like life jackets and boat cushions. A fish‑cleaning house with stainless‑steel tables, hot and cold water and freezer storage makes it easy to process and preserve your catch.
Families will enjoy our sand play area with a jungle gym, swing and even the original 1920s maypole from the property’s schoolhouse days. When you’re ready to explore beyond the resort, Birchwood is surrounded by activities. Golfers can choose from seven 18‑hole courses within a 30‑minute drive, with one course just five minutes away. The Ice Age Trail runs through town, offering scenic hiking, wildlife viewing and quiet forest roads.
Adventurers can rent an ATV in town and ride the Tuscobia Trail or numerous other routes through the northwoods. You can swim right off the pier or take the kids to the free beach at Doolittle Park on nearby Birch Lake. The town of Birchwood also features antique shops, a grocery store, hardware store, bank, post office, lumber yard and laundromat. For a night out, you’ll find a café, pizza den and two local taverns. A short 30‑minute drive brings you to Hayward, where you’ll find additional restaurants, shops and attractions.

Nightly rate is $250 during prime season. Weekly rates range from $1,500–$1,600 depending on the season and length of stay. Rates include lodging for up to four guests; additional guests are $20 per night. A two‑night minimum stay is required. A $200 deposit is due within 14 days of making your reservation and is refundable with at least 60 days notice; the balance is due at check‑in by cash or check. Red School Resort is owned and operated by the Manning family—Rich, Donna and Tony—who live next door and have been welcoming guests since the mid‑1980s. The resort takes its name from a 1920s schoolhouse that once stood on the property. Over the years, the Mannings have lovingly remodeled each cabin, preserving original woodwork while adding modern conveniences. They’re on hand to launch your boat, answer questions and ensure you have everything you need for a memorable stay at Big Chetac Lake.
