Cabin 6 at Red School Resort is a spacious three‑bedroom vacation home located right on the shore of Big Chetac Lake. This lakeside retreat features nearly 1,000 square feet of living space with a layout ideal for families or fishing groups. Inside you’ll find a full and single bed in one room, two singles in the second bedroom and a queen bed in the third. The living room has two Lazy Boy recliners and a hide‑a‑bed sofa, while the fully equipped kitchen includes a full‑size refrigerator, gas stove, and table with six chairs.
Large windows and a screened porch blur the line between indoors and out, letting you enjoy lake breezes and peaceful views no matter the weather. Step outside onto the 12×8‑foot deck for morning coffee or cast a line from your private pier just a few steps away. With 40‑inch flat screen television and premium digital channels, air conditioning, and a 90%‑efficient furnace, Cabin 6 offers modern comfort in a rustic Northwoods setting.
Built in 1989, this cabin combines the character of a classic lakefront getaway with updated amenities. From the cedar porch swing to the convenient Wi‑Fi, every detail is designed to make your stay relaxing and memorable. Whether you’re grilling on the Weber, telling stories around the fire pit, or watching the sun rise over the water, this cabin invites you to unwind and reconnect with nature.
One of the standout features of Cabin 6 is its lakeside location and private pier. Guests can dock their own boat or use one of the resort’s boats, and the brand new boat launch next to the cabin makes it easy to get out on Big Chetac Lake. A spacious screened porch with a cedar swing offers a bug‑free space to watch sunrises and sunsets. The adjacent 12×8 foot deck provides an open platform for stargazing or enjoying a meal outdoors.
Inside, the cabin feels more like a home than a rental. Nearly 1,000 square feet of living space means there is room for everyone to spread out. Modern conveniences such as air conditioning, a 40‑inch flat screen TV with premium channels, Wi‑Fi, and a 90% efficient furnace ensure comfort in every season. The combination of rustic charm and thoughtful updates makes Cabin 6 both cozy and functional.
There are plenty of activities right on the property. Young visitors love the large sand play area equipped with a jungle gym, swing and even an original maypole from the 1920s schoolhouse. Anglers will appreciate the fish cleaning building with stainless steel tables, hot and cold running water, freezer space and supplies to store and wrap your catch. Cabin 6’s private pier and the resort’s boat launch make it easy to fish or cruise Big Chetac Lake, which is known for bluegill, crappie, walleye, northern pike and bass.
If you’re bringing your own boat, you can dock it at no extra cost, and the resort also rents motors, extra boats and life jackets. After a day on the water, relax by the fire pit or enjoy a friendly game at the sand play area. The resort’s laid‑back atmosphere means you can choose to socialize or seek quiet time as you wish.
Beyond the resort, the Birchwood area offers a wide range of activities. There are seven 18‑hole golf courses within 30 minutes, including one just outside of Birchwood. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Ice Age Trail for scenic hikes or rent an ATV to ride the Tuscobia Trail network. Families can swim at the public beach in nearby Doolittle Park, and shoppers will find antique and junk shops, a grocery store, hardware store and other local businesses in town.
For day trips, Hayward is about 30 minutes away and offers tourist‑oriented attractions, from specialty shops to museums. Whether you prefer fishing, hiking, boating, golfing or just relaxing by the lake, Cabin 6 is a comfortable home base for exploring northern Wisconsin.

Our family loved Cabin 6! The screened porch overlooking Big Chetac Lake offered a peaceful start to each day, and the kids enjoyed fishing right off the private pier. We appreciated the spacious living area and fully equipped kitchen. – The Johnson Family
We spent a week at Lakeside Haven with friends and it was perfect for our fishing trip. The boat launch next door made it easy to get out on the water, and we enjoyed evening campfires. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. – Mike R.
Cabin 6 provided a wonderful home base for exploring Birchwood. After hiking the nearby Ice Age Trail, it was great to relax in the air-conditioned cabin. The owners were friendly and helpful but gave us our privacy. We'll be back! – Sarah M.

Red School Resort is owned and operated by Rich, Donna and Tony Manning. The Manning family purchased the property in the 1980s and have lovingly maintained its Northwoods charm while adding modern comforts. They believe in letting guests enjoy their vacation with minimal interruption, but they live nearby and are always available if you need something extra. Over the years they have remodeled the original 1950s cabins and built newer ones like Cabin 6, keeping the woodsy character while ensuring each unit is well heated, comfortable and supplied.
The property sits on land that once housed a three‑room schoolhouse built in 1926. After the school closed, it was converted into a home and eventually became part of the resort. The Manning family embraces this history—it’s how Red School Resort got its name. Their goal is to provide a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where visitors feel like family and want to return year after year.
