Some cabin weekends need a lake map. At Conestoga Ranch & Lodge, your private pond is right outside, framed by more than ten acres of prairie and trees near Stratford. Our Amish-crafted log home gives a family or group of friends a place to settle into the countryside, with a broad deck for watching the water and a fireplace for evenings inside.
A king bedroom, two queen bedrooms and an open loft with two queen beds accommodate up to ten guests. Bring the grocery haul and make the long dining table part of the weekend: pancake plans, a pizza night and the conversation that keeps going after the plates are cleared. Downstairs, shuffleboard, foosball and poker give everyone a reason to put the phones down.
Spend an afternoon by the pond, read in a hammock or let the children work on their latest sandbox construction project. As daylight fades, the illuminated firepit brings the group back together, with firewood provided. Conestoga is open year-round, so the same deck-and-pond getaway can become a winter base for skiing in the Wausau area.
Handcrafted log walls, a vaulted gathering room and designer Judy Whitlock’s furnishings give the lodge its own personality. The sleeping loft is open to the house, which is useful to know when early risers and late-night game players are choosing beds. A desk in the loft provides a workspace, and the detached two-car garage houses the ping-pong table.
Plan the menu around a distinctive kitchen: a five-burner induction cooktop, a microwave/convection/air-fryer combination, a countertop roaster and a commercial countertop pizza oven. There is no conventional full-size oven. Outside, the combination gas-and-charcoal grill adds another cooking option. The private pond is available for seasonal swimming and fishing; water shoes are recommended. Confirm kayak and pedal-boat availability and any charges with us before your stay.
Build the first day around the property: a pond-side picnic, a badminton match or a stretch in the hammocks while the children investigate the sandbox. The seasonal kayaks and pedal boat give you another way to enjoy the pond, but confirm arrangements and fees with us before planning around them. There is no hot tub at Conestoga; the pond, deck and fireplace provide the slower diversions here.
Rib Mountain State Park makes a worthwhile outing near Wausau. For a gentler walk, use the Green trail through quartzite formations rather than the steep southern section of the Red trail. A longer outing can connect the Red and Quarry trails to see the former quartzite quarry. Bring walking shoes and use the current trail map to choose your route; a vehicle admission sticker is required.
For children who would rather meet animals than climb a hill, visit Wildwood Park & Zoo in Marshfield. Walk through the main zoo or use the separate large-animal drive, then spend time with the Welcome Center’s small-animal exhibits. The zoo shortens its hours in winter, and pets are not allowed inside, so check the day’s hours and plan accordingly.
When snow becomes the main attraction, Granite Peak on Rib Mountain offers downhill skiing and snowboarding, equipment rentals and lessons. Reserve instruction ahead and check what your chosen package includes; tickets, equipment and lessons can be separate purchases. Ask us about the lodge’s advertised ATV and snowmobile connections before bringing machines, and use current county maps and opening reports to plan each ride.

Rates and minimum stays vary with dates, season and group size. Most weekends require at least two nights; peak summer and holiday dates may require three or more. Use our property calendar or request a quote for your dates and full guest count. A signed rental agreement is required; the primary renter must be 21 or older. No parties or smoking. Quiet hours are 10 p.m.–8 a.m. Parking is limited to six vehicles in designated areas.
Pets must be disclosed when booking. Our pet policy allows up to two dogs or cats, up to 15 pounds each, with a $250 nonrefundable pet fee per stay; ask us about larger pets before booking. Fresh bed linens and bath towels are provided. Daily housekeeping is not included. Confirm the current cancellation terms, any optional charges and your total in the booking quote.
A $300 security-deposit hold is required. Confirm seasonal kayak and pedal-boat availability and any rental charges before booking. The kitchen has specialty countertop ovens rather than a conventional full-size oven.
