A small lake and a small guest list set the pace at White Pine Retreat. Our two-bedroom cabin sleeps up to five in a wooded setting on Brazell Lake near Eagle River. This is a non-motorized lake, so the appeal is in watching the water, listening to the woods and leaving room in the day for whatever catches your attention.
Inside, the kitchen and living area share one bright gathering space, with windows that bring the trees into view. Make breakfast before an outing, spread out with a book on the sofa or take your conversation onto the deck. The updated kitchen, bathroom and furnishings give this 800-square-foot cabin a fresh, comfortable feel while keeping the scale of a classic Northwoods getaway. Nobody needs a group text to find the rest of the family.
The sleeping arrangement works especially well for a family: one bedroom has a queen bed, while the second has a queen lower bunk, a twin upper bunk and a twin trundle. The guest limit remains five. There is one bathroom, air conditioning for warm days and a firepit for evenings outside. Pets aren't allowed. Book directly with our StepAway Vacation Rentals team and ask us about your dates and plans for Brazell Lake.
White Pine's open living space puts the kitchen, dining table and seating together under a high ceiling with exposed beams. Wood flooring and natural wood cabinets add warmth to the lighter walls. Two separate bedrooms let early sleepers turn in while the rest of the group finishes the evening in the living room; the second bedroom's bunk-and-trundle arrangement gives families several bed choices within the five-person limit.
Outside, the deck has a built-in bench and opens toward a tree-covered lakeside setting. Brazell Lake's non-motorized character suits guests who value a quieter waterfront stay. The cabin also has a washer and dryer, so a small suitcase can go a little further. If paddling is part of your plan, ask our team what equipment is currently supplied before deciding what to bring or rent.
Leave some unplanned time for Brazell Lake. Watch for birds along the wooded shore, bring a book to the deck and finish a clear evening around the firepit. For time on the water, confirm equipment and access details with our team before arrival; a non-motorized lake calls for a different kind of boat day than the Eagle River Chain.
For an outing you can make as short as you like, walk or ride the Three Eagle Trail from Eagle River. Park by the historic depot at Railroad and Wall streets, then head one block south to the limestone path beside Dairy Queen. The northern section runs 2.8 miles one way to Section 9 Road, passing the 660-foot Four Women Boardwalk over Mud Creek and its wetlands. Turn around whenever your group is ready; completing that whole section out and back is 5.6 miles. The full route to Three Lakes includes a road connection between its two off-road sections.
Anvil Lake Trail offers a bigger forest outing east of Eagle River, with a 12-mile network rather than a single 12-mile loop. Choose from marked beginner, intermediate and expert routes as the terrain changes from level woods to hills. The Highway 70 parking area is on the south side just east of Military Road, and a recreation fee applies. Winter brings groomed cross-country skiing; check the current map, grooming and conditions before choosing a route.
For families with younger explorers, keep the Northwoods Children's Museum on your rainy-day list. Its interactive exhibits include a pretend grocery store, an art studio and the Energy Expedition area. You'll find it at 346 West Division Street in Eagle River, with free parking. Regular hours are Monday–Friday 10–5 and Saturday 10–3, with Sundays and selected holidays closed; check the current calendar when planning your visit.
