What started as an old 42’ railroad boxcar is now one of Wisconsin’s Northwoods premier private lodges. Your neighborhood is the Northern Highland State Forest and more than 1,300 lakes. 92% of the Star Lake shoreline is undeveloped! For years, the boxcar was used as the home on the property. Eventually, the boxcar-turned-cottage hit the end of the line. Today, a new 6-bedroom lodge is on the original footprint of the boxcar. See if you can find part of the railroad track on the property.
Gather your group around the glow of a campfire outside, or inside by the spacious fireplace. By the time your head hits the pillow, the sounds of loons and bullfrogs will quietly echo through the woods.
This is a private and beautiful destination with a sandy lake bottom with some rocks. Star Lake is a recreation lake too - go water skiing, or zip across the lake to your favorite musky spot. You can always find quiet sandbars and private coves to splash and relax in. Welcome to our outdoorsman’s paradise!
The Hiawatha On Star lodge in northern Wisconsin is walking distance to a store/coffee. Sayner/St. Germain is a preferred destination for snowmobiling, and for the casual golfer - where else can you play golf and see watch wildlife? Before you head home, make sure you visit the Vilas Historical Museum in Sayner.
You’re in the Heart of Vilas County! So hop on 45 miles of paved Bike Trail System and take a quiet tour of St. Germain, north to Sayner-Star Lake, to Boulder Junction and Manitowish Waters. Looking for a not-so-quiet tour? Mountain bikers will find trail riding on Razorback Ridges a real treat. During winter, this trail is popular for cross-country skiing. Spending part of summer at this Sayner lodge puts guests at the doorstep to many Sayner/St. Germain activities: Sayner Street Fair, Flea Markets, Walk in the Woods Art Fair, Plum Ski-ter Water Ski Show, LIVE Summer Concert Series, Joe Bucher Blues Fest, and more.

Amazing house with an awesome location.
Our family of 13 had a great stay at Hiawatha on Star! The open floor plan was awesome and the island in the kitchen was a popular hangout. The wine fridges in the kitchen and the basement were a bonus. We utilized the three season room for reading and games. The warm breeze was refreshing. The deck on top of the boat house was an excellent touch! We could hang out in the sun or read, and still watch the kids swim and kayak. Lots of bald eagles flying around, even got a great picture of one flying right in front of the main window. The playground was also a big hit with the kids. We utilized the yard to play bocce ball, toss around the football and hit the volleyball back and forth. We were close to some hiking trails, too, which was nice. The bedrooms did get pretty warm at night, especially the bunk rooms. All the other bedrooms have ceiling fans. Only have a couple complaints: 1- the refrigerator was nice, but not big enough for feeding a large family for the week. We had to make several trips to the general store for more milk and water because we couldn’t fit everything in the fridge. Overall, amenities were great! The house was very clean and well taken care of. Beds were comfortable and the sheets and towels were in great repair. Great location! Would highly recommend.
We used the house for a snowmobile trip plenty of room well built. the only knock is the parking they say there is plenty of parking, (not with a snowmobile trailer) don't attempt to take a 4 place trailer to the house. other than that it was great.
